Ayo ‘AY’ Makun laments how men don’t support themselves in Nollywood: ‘Work on your PR’

  • Comedian and actor Ayo Makun aka AY has complained about the lack of support from men in the entertainment industry.
  • He shared what could be the cause and claimed that he is the latest male filmmaker who has decided not to quit in Nollywood.
  • Several social media users said that a good film sells itself, while others mentioned some male filmmakers who are doing well in the industry.

Nollywood filmmaker Ayo ‘AY’ Makun has expressed his displeasure that his male counterparts find it difficult to get support from male fans unlike his female colleagues.

He wondered if he needed to have mammary glands and buttocks to gain support from his peers. The actor, who is also a comedian, said the men will one day explain what they did to each other.

Reactions as AY complains about male support

Check out some of the reactions below as AY bemoans the lack of support for male Nollywood filmmakers:

@naija.blood:

“A bargain sells itself. Everyone is talking about Seven Doors and its cast. Although I won’t watch it because I don’t understand Yoruba and hate reading subtitles, but I think Femi Adebayo has done a good job of getting such accolades. So, AY brothers, if your movie is sweet, relax your mind BUT if it’s not sweet, no amount of promo and shout, make people. THE look.

@gloriaakindemowo:

“Stop generalizing what is special about you. Nothing comes from nothing. Femi Adebayo, Kunle Afolayan and many others will not agree with your self-imposed loneliness. Work on your PR.”

@0lamide_praise:

“Yeah, we’re not doing shit for Merry Men and we want to go watch this one? Give us a good reason, man. And Odunade better not make any more theatrical films, make sure they put it for YouTube because no, it’s still bullshit.

@kingsleyben36:

“You’re busy introducing another man’s ex-wife and you think men are proud of you? Oga you’re lying.”

@symply_beautiana:

“Abeg AY stays. How many women get the money men get for this country. See the music industry, comedy, big business, men are in their own right. The little privilege women get, you still won’t win their hand.”

@lucky_dubeson:

“Coming from a person who has never supported Yul even when he is still with his wife. But who has constantly supported his wife May, especially since the problem with her husband.”
