Luigi Mangione Bail: Luigi Mangione is a young man, not a human ping-pong ball: what his lawyer told the court

Luigi Mangione was seen smiling in court today as he pleaded not guilty to state charges.

As Luigi Mangione appeared in a Manhattan courtroom where he pleaded not guilty to the first-degree murder charge of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, his attorney Karen Friedman Agnifilo made strong statements against the current handling of the case, depriving Mangione of the “right to a fair trial.” His lawyer said Mangione was made into a spectacle and paraded around New York as if he were political fodder. She also discussed the federal murder and harassment charges against her client, which could result in the death penalty against her client.

Here is the full statement from Luigi Mangione’s lawyer

“We have two procedures that we must respond to – one of them is eligible for death, so we request that we immediately obtain advance information from the New York City Police Department, the FBI and federal documents and state,” she said.
“The second thing I want to report, Your Honor, is that I am very concerned about my client’s right to a fair trial. In this case, he is being prejudiced by certain statements made by government officials. Like any other defendant, he is entitled to the presumption of innocence, but unfortunately the way this case has been handled so far has been violated. There is abundant case law guaranteeing his right to a fair trial, but none of the. guarantees have not been put in place place. but here, in fact, it’s quite the opposite He’s a young man, but he’s being treated like a human ping-pong ball between two warring jurisdictions. These federal and state prosecutors are coordinating. at their expense. contradictory theories in their indictments and they literally treat him as if he were some kind of political fodder, some kind of spectacle.”
“He was on display for all to see in the biggest organized march for criminals I have ever seen in my career. It was absolutely unnecessary. He cooperated with law enforcement, he is in custody for over a week; he waived extradition; he was cooperative in every way. There was no reason for the NYPD and everyone else to have these big assault rifles. Honestly, I had no idea what their arsenal was… the press there, the media… it was perfectly choreographed and what was the mayor of the city doing at the press conference?… And frankly. , I contend that he (the mayor) was simply trying to distract from these issues by giving Mr. Mangione a show.
Next, the attorney pointed to Mayor Eric Adams’ statement he made the day Mangione was brought from Pennsylvania to New York and said that nowhere in his statement did the mayor mention the word “alleged.” before calling Mangione a murderer. Mangione is innocent until proven guilty and this political charade must stop, the lawyer said.
