Redmi Note 14 Pro+ review: high-end but affordable device

The Redmi Note series has long been the backbone of Xiaomi’s success in India, consistently delivering feature-rich smartphones at affordable prices. With the launch of the Redmi Note 14 Pro+, the company aims to push the boundaries of what we expect from a mid-range device. But in an increasingly competitive market, does this latest offering have what it takes to stand out? Let’s go.

A striking design

The moment you lay eyes on the Redmi Note 14 Pro+, it’s clear that Xiaomi has upped its design game. Gone are the days of plastic construction and uninspired aesthetics. This phone looks premium, with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the front and Gorilla Glass 7i on the back. The curved edges nestle comfortably in your palm, while the camera housing adds a touch of distinctive style. Plus, the IP68 rating for dust and water resistance provides much-needed peace of mind.

Display

Xiaomi hasn’t skimped on the screen, equipping the Note 14 Pro+ with a 6.67-inch curved AMOLED display that is an absolute pleasure to use. With a refresh rate of 120Hz and a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, this panel is a powerhouse. Whether you’re scrolling through social media, watching your favorite Netflix series, or gaming, the visuals are crisp, vibrant, and smooth. HDR10+ and Dolby Vision support makes a noticeable difference, especially when watching content on streaming platforms.

Camera performance

The Redmi Note 14 Pro+ features a more capable triple-camera setup than ever before.

In good lighting, the main camera does well: the colors stand out without being oversaturated and the level of detail is impressive. Adding a proper telephoto lens is a game-changer for this price range, enabling high-quality zoom shots that were previously the domain of much more expensive phones.

Low-light performance has also seen notable improvements. While it may not quite match the night photography capabilities of flagship devices, it’s more than capable of capturing those evening outings with friends or family gatherings.

The ultra-wide camera does a decent job, although there is a noticeable drop in quality compared to the main sensor. It’s great for group photos or landscape views, but don’t expect miracles in difficult lighting conditions.

Selfie enthusiasts will appreciate the 20 MP front camera, which captures sharp self-portraits. However, I sometimes noticed excessive skin smoothing, even with Beauty mode turned off.

Performance

Under the hood, the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ is powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset. It may not be the most capable processor on the market, but in the real world, it’s more than capable of handling everything that you throw at him.

During my testing, I put the phone through its paces and the Note 14 Pro+ handled everything, with only occasional minor hiccups in the most demanding scenarios.

The phone runs on Xiaomi’s new HyperOS, based on Android 14. It’s a cleaner, more refined experience. That said, there is bloatware, but the good news is that you can uninstall these apps.

Battery life

If there’s one area where the Redmi Note 14 Pro truly excels, it’s battery life. Xiaomi has managed to pack a massive 6,200mAh battery into this device, and the results are impressive.

With heavy use – including gaming, video streaming, and social media – I always ended the day with 25-30% battery remaining. For more moderate users, two full days on a single charge are entirely possible.

The included 90W fast charger may be down on the previous model’s 120W charging, but it’s still incredibly fast. You can go from empty to full in about 35 minutes, which is perfect for those mornings when you forgot to plug in overnight.

Verdict

At the starting price of Priced at $30,999, the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ offers a combination of features, performance, and build quality that punches well above its weight class.

Is it perfect? The software could use some improvement and the camera system, while significantly improved, can still be improved in some areas. But when you consider the whole thing – the premium design, the excellent screen, the versatile cameras, the exceptional performance and the battery life – it’s hard not to be impressed.
