‘Constitutional posts are not meant to settle scores’: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar responds to Indian bloc’s no-confidence motion against him – India News

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, speaking for the first time since opposition bloc INDIA submitted an impeachment demand, said on Tuesday that those in constitutional roles must prioritize dialogue and respect the principles democratic.

Addressing a gathering of women journalists at the Vice President’s enclave, Dhankhar warned against “orchestrated efforts” to undermine national interests.

The INDIA bloc’s notice, submitted on December 10, accused Dhankhar of being “explicitly partisan” in conducting Rajya Sabha proceedings and acting as a “passionate spokesperson” for government policies. He also highlighted her statement that he was the “Eklavya of the RSS”, deeming her “unworthy” of her role.

On December 19, Vice President Harivansh Narayan Singh rejected the notice on technical grounds, calling it flawed. Dhankhar, in his remarks, criticized the notice, calling it “hasty and surprising”.

“Just look at the notice against the vice president. Just look at the six links they gave. You will be shocked. Chandra Shekhar Ji once said, “Never use a vegetable knife for bypass surgery. » It wasn’t even a vegetable knife; it was rusty. There was a rush. When I read it, I was amazed,” he said, The Indian Express reported.

“Expression and dialogue are inalienable for democracy. Without this, democracy cannot flourish,” Dhankhar said, adding that criticism must be rooted in constructive engagement.

The vice president also stressed the need to protect constitutional institutions and national interests, saying attempts to dismantle them were “orchestrated by hostile forces.”

“Let me explain why the notice was issued. Any constitutional position must be justified by a commitment to sublimity, conspicuousness, and constitutionalism. We are unable to settle accounts. Because for the success of democracy, two things are inalienable: expression and dialogue,” Dhankhar said.

The opposition’s move, supported by around 60 Rajya Sabha MPs, including members of the Congress, AAP, TMC and other parties, was symbolic, given their lack of numbers to pass the resolution. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju defended Dhankhar, highlighting his peasant roots and commitment to the welfare of the nation.
