Jehovah’s Witnesses are one of the most popular church members that do not celebrate Christmas.

They believe that Christmas originated in “false religious beliefs or activities.”

This discovery caused the Witnesses to stop celebrating Christmas like all other Christians.

This is what the 1993 Jehovah’s Witness book “Proclaimers of the Kingdom of God” says.

Like many other Christian groups, the organization observed the holiday until 1928.

Seventh-day Adventist Church

Members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church believe that Jesus was not born in December and that Christians are not required to commemorate his birth in the Bible.

They see the celebration of Christmas as a commercialized event with pagan roots.

The Church views Christmas and Easter celebrations as a matter of personal preference.

The Seventh-day Adventist Church has urged its followers to focus on their faith and connection with Christ without questioning commonly observed customs.

The church has stated that Christmas carols and other holiday customs are not included in the Bible or early church practices.

Deeper Life Bible Church believed that Christmas had its roots in a pagan celebration of the sun god.

The General Overseer, Pastor WF Kumuyi, during the church retreat in December 2013, explained the reason why the church does not celebrate Christmas.

“We don’t celebrate Christmas. In reality, she had an idolatrous origin.

The church holds an event called Freedom Day in October to honor the anniversary of Jesus’ birth rather than Christmas.

  • The Kingdom of God Society (GKS)

The Church considers Christmas to be a celebration that has its roots in pagan Roman customs such as the celebration of Saturnalia.

According to the Kingdom of God Society, these festivals pay homage to the solar deity.

Like Deeper Lige, GSK commemorates the anniversary of the birth of Jesus Christ in October with an event called Freedom Day.

They believe this date is consistent with historical and biblical interpretation.

  • Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM)

This is another church that believes Christmas has pagan origins and lacks biblical foundation.

It is not based on Christian theology but rather on pagan customs and the Roman celebration of Saturnalia.

Christmas: Nigerian governor approves payment of salaries in December

In the meantime, Legitime.ng reported that civil servants in Borno State are jubilant as Governor Babagana Zulum approved the payment of December salary for Christmas celebration.

Governor Zulum approved the payment of December salaries for workers on Friday, December 13, 2024.

The governor’s spokesperson, Dauda Illiya, said the payment of salaries in early December will allow residents to celebrate the Christmas season without financial hindrance.
