Hyderabad: The Congress on Tuesday held protests across the state demanding Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s removal from the cabinet for his alleged derogatory remarks against BR Ambedkar.
Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, TPCC President B Mahesh Kumar Goud, ministers, MPs, MLCs and MLAs held rallies and staged protests in all districts including Greater Hyderabad.
The Congress delegations submitted representations against Shah to the collectors in the respective districts, urging the district magistrates to send them to President Droupadi Murmu. The representations were addressed to the President.
The protest program was part of ‘Ambedkar Samman Saptah and Babasaheb Samman March’ following a nationwide campaign call by the All India Congress Committee to honor Ambedkar and counter alleged attempts by the BJP and the RSS to undermine the leader and the Constitution.
In Hyderabad, the protest rally was taken out from the Ambedkar statue at Tank Bund to the Collectorate. Participants held placards, condemned Shah’s remarks and raised slogans demanding his immediate resignation.
TPCC president Mahesh Goud led the protest in the city and said Dalits and all those who respect the Constitution consider Ambedkar as God. Shah’s remarks have hurt millions: either he should resign, Prime Minister Modi should remove him from the cabinet, or the President should sack him, he said.
“BJP and RSS have a hidden agenda to replace the Constitution written by Ambedkar with Manusmriti, which promotes caste system and inequality,” he said.
