The alleged footage showed the family’s SUV following a milk truck on the Bangalore-Tumakuru stretch of the highway when a loaded container truck, traveling in the opposite direction, went out of control. The truck reportedly crossed the central reservation, collided with the milk truck and overturned onto the SUV. Although the SUV driver slowed down to avoid the chaos, the container truck ran directly into the vehicle, causing the disaster. HT, however, could not verify the veracity of the video.

Police said the container truck was carrying a massive load of 26 tonnes of metal, which contributed to the extent of the damage. “If the truck was empty or carrying less weight, the passengers in the SUV would have survived,” said a senior police officer involved in the investigation.

The officer said CCTV footage has become a vital piece of evidence to understand the chain of events. Citing the footage, police said the accident may have been triggered by a blue car that suddenly slowed down in front of the container truck. The sudden deceleration forced the truck driver, Arif, to brake suddenly and drive towards the dividing barrier to avoid a collision. This maneuver caused the truck to lose control and cross into the oncoming lane.

“The tragedy was caused by a rash decision made by a motorist. The driver of the container truck, trying to avoid hitting the car, ended up veering into the opposite lane,” the officer added.

Arif, who was injured in the accident, corroborated the findings, saying: “A car in front of me suddenly braked. When I braked, the truck continued to move forward.

After the incident, a complaint was filed against the truck driver.
