Man arrested for attempted murder after car hits pedestrians in London

Four pedestrians taken to hospital, including one in life-threatening condition, police say

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a group of people were hit by a car in London on Wednesday morning, police said.

The Metropolitan Police said officers were called at 00:45 GMT following reports of a road accident and a car traveling on the wrong side of the road on Shaftesbury Avenue.

“Four pedestrians were taken to hospital and one of them is in life-threatening condition,” police said in a statement, adding that the driver, a 31-year-old man, had been arrested.

“Detectives are progressing quickly with this investigation. It is believed the suspect was involved in an altercation at a nightclub before getting into his car and driving onto the sidewalk,” Deputy Commissioner Stuart Cundy said in the press release.

“This is an isolated incident and is not related to terrorism.”
