Heavy rain causes flash flooding – FBC News

Fiji is currently experiencing an active trough of low pressure which is causing cloud cover and continued rain across the country.

Another active trough is expected to arrive tomorrow from the west, bringing further rain which will gradually spread over the rest of Fiji by Sunday.

The weather forecast predicts periods of rain with occasional heavy showers and possible thunderstorms.

Authorities have issued a moderate level of confidence in the forecast and are advising the public to remain cautious.

Flooding is expected in low-lying communities, roads and commercial areas, with disruptions to essential services including electricity and traffic.

Communities near streams and riverbanks could be displaced due to rising waters and the risk of landslides. Coastal areas, particularly at high tide, are expected to experience significant flooding.

A flash flood warning is in force for all low-lying, flood-prone areas and small rivers in Fiji.

Heavy rain is expected to cause flooding of drainage systems, small streams, roads and properties in these areas.

Residents in affected areas are urged to take necessary precautions to stay safe.
