“My only regret is not having done it sooner”

“My only regret is not having done it sooner”

As we are frequently reminded during the holiday season, gift giving can be a challenge even if your intentions are good. A new homeowner recently turned to the r/homeowners subreddit for advice after receiving a less than ideal housewarming gift from his father.

“My dad gave me an older gas mower, but it of course requires cleaning the carburetor etc. I don’t really want to do all that every time I mow, so has anyone already had any experience with electric mowers? » asked the poster.

Cleaning the carburetor, refueling, and other maintenance tasks are indeed some of the reasons why electric gardening equipment is preferable to traditional gasoline-powered equipment such as lawn mowers, leaf blowers, etc. .

Another important reason is the amount of air pollution produced by gas-powered equipment. Since this type of equipment is not designed with efficiency in mind, the amount of carbon dioxide and other pollutants they release, causing the planet to overheat, is staggering given their size relatively small. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, running a gas-powered lawn mower for just one hour produces as much air pollution causing the planet to overheat as driving a car 350 miles.

Electric equipment is also considerably quieter than gas-powered equipment, which, if you’ve ever lived on a street where someone was frequently blowing leaves, you know is no small thing.

Some cities have even started banning gas-powered equipment now that there are superior alternatives on the market.

Luckily, other members of the subreddit had plenty of recommendations for the original poster.

“I have a Ryobi 40V mower, edger and leaf blower. My only regret is not doing this sooner,” one commenter wrote.

“From the research I’ve done, EGO is pretty much the best brand when it comes to electric gardening tools,” advised another.

If you are considering switching to electric garden tools, which of these factors would be most compelling to you?

“I love my electric mower. It’s quiet and you don’t smell the exhaust when you’re done. It showed me that I really don’t mind mowing, I just hate gas mowers. I bought the eGo one recommended by Wirecutter,” another commenter chimed in.
