The Delhi High Court recently ordered the Consortium of National Law Universities (CNLU) to revise the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) results in 2025. The Consortium has now announced its intention to approach the Court Supreme Court to seek relief from the Delhi High Court’s directive to revise the CLAT 2025 rankings.

This means there will be a delay in the CLAT 2025 counseling process, the Consortium said in an official statement. A revised schedule will be released shortly after a resolution is reached. As per the previous counseling schedule, the Consortium was scheduled to release the first seat allocation result today, December 26, 2024.

Students allege errors in questionnaire

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2025, conducted on December 1 for undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) admissions, had its final answer key released on December 7. Subsequently, several candidates raised objections to the final CLAT PG answer key, pointing out alleged errors. They also criticized the “unreasonable” fee of Rs 1,000 per question for submitting objections.

Petition filed in HC

An aspirant had filed a writ petition challenging the final answer key and sought a review of his result. The petitioner, a 17-year-old candidate, Aditya Singh, who had appeared for the CLAT 2025 UG exam has also sought corrections to the remaining disputed questions. He claimed that due to the errors in the answer key, he lost marks, which affected his admission in top institutes.

Delhi HC finds two errors in CLAT 2025 question paper

Last week, the Delhi High Court identified two errors in Series A of the questionnaire. This includes questions 14 and 100. “The errors in questions 14 and 100 are manifestly clear and to turn a blind eye to these errors would be an injustice to the applicant, although this Court is aware that this may have an impact on the result of other candidates,” the court had said.

In response to a writ petition, the Delhi High Court ordered the Consortium to revise the merit list published on December 7 on its official website, consortiumofnlus.ac.in. On December 20, a single judge ruled that the answers to two questions in the entrance test were incorrect and asked the Consortium to update the merit list accordingly. Following this, the division bench of the Delhi High Court refused to set aside the single bench’s order.

What did the Consortium say?

The CNLUs filed an appeal before the division bench of the Delhi HC, but they did not intervene in the single judge bench’s order. Therefore, the Consortium will approach the SC for appropriate relief against the order at the earliest, it said.

We are approaching the SC for appropriate relief against this order at the earliest in view of vacation,” the official notice said.

He further added that the counseling process would be delayed and a new schedule would be issued after the appeal process. “We understand that this development could result in some delay in the planned advisory process, and we assure you that the Consortium is committed to ensuring transparency and fairness in the process. Therefore, the release of the first admission list of NLUs, initially scheduled for December 26, will be delayed and there on the counseling process. The new schedule will be announced after our SC appeal process and expected relief,” the notice added.
