Mohanlal’s acclaimed Barroz hit the theaters yesterday and it has racked up a good number on its first day. It had the advantage of the Christmas holidays, but the film did not reach full capacity thanks to ticket sales over the counter. Surprisingly, the collection recorded on the opening day is much lower than that of Mohanlal’s last theatrical release, Malaikottai Vaaliban, which released earlier this year. Keep reading for a detailed box office report!

Directed by Mohanlal himself, the Mollywood fantasy film opened to mixed reviews. Although it received praise for the visuals, the legendary Malayalam actor’s execution was reportedly an issue. As a result, despite yesterday’s holiday, the biggie could not attract many people throughout the day. There was also a competition in the form of Marco performing in theaters across Kerala.

In Malayalam, Barroz started with a solid occupancy rate of 49% in the morning shows. It saw a good jump during the afternoon and evening shows, but the night shows saw a decline. Speaking of collecting, the big one managed to win 3.65 million net at the Indian box office on its first day, according to Sacnilk.

This is a decent figure but well below expectations. For the unversed, Mohanlal’s Malaikottai Vaaliban, released in January, won 5.65 million net on the first day. Compared to this, Barroz earned 35% less yesterday. The collection was also lower than Unni Mukundan’s Marco, which opened at 4.30 million net.

The Mollywood biggie also stars Maya Rao West, Tuhin Menon and others in key roles. Antony Perumbavoor financed the film, based on the novel Barroz: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure by Jijo Punnoose.

Meanwhile, Barroz would have won with a budget of 80 million dollars. Compared to such a cost, the start at the Indian box office is dismal. Let’s see how it goes.
