Sony Inzone M10S review: A beautiful OLED gaming monitor

Sony’s push into the PC gaming market has never been stronger on the software side, with everything from the massive Helldivers 2 to the Until Dawn remake arriving on console and PC simultaneously.

This is also reflected in the hardware, and Sony’s Inzone team has certainly cooked up. After a promising start with the Inzone M9 a few years agoTHE M10S brings OLED and a high refresh rate together in perfect harmony – but with the caveat of a hefty $1,099 price tag.

If you can stomach it, though, this monitor is a perfect companion for competing PC releases and PS5 consoles, and could also be the perfect thing to show off the upcoming PS5 Pro. This makes it an easy choice as one of the best gaming monitorsand gives you one less excuse for not getting an Ace in VALORANT every match.

Sony Inzone M10S: the highs

The real superpower of the Inzone M10S isn’t just how Sony created an OLED panel that runs at 480Hz, but also how easy it is to adjust it to your liking.

Ditching the PS5-like color scheme of previous Inzone models, the Inzone M10S is a sleek black unit that, while off, arguably has little to offer that you can’t find on other monitors – at least in Fremont.

The 27-inch model we’re testing has a relatively nondescript appearance, with just a subtle light on the right side to show that it’s on, and thin, but still visible, bezels on either side. However, turn it over and there’s a sort of “oval” ridge on the back that makes it a little more recognizable – although you won’t see it often.

Perhaps one of my favorite features, as strange as it may sound, is the slim, central stand. While monitors don’t necessarily have to be portable, the unit’s small desktop footprint and light weight (6.2kg with stand) could make the Inzone M10S ideal to take to a friend’s house for a LAN session.

The stand is also ideal for esports enthusiasts who want to push their keyboard right under the screen, and it certainly adapts easily to this style of play.

One thing to note is how thin the model is at the edges. That’s not a bad thing, of course, but anyone putting accessories like a webcam on it may need to do a little adjustment to get it to sit properly.

A breeze to set up

In terms of setup, I’m happy to say that whether you’re using a PC or Mac, the Inzone M10S is plug and play.

There is a device menu you can trigger with the rear menu that provides access to picture mode presets and game aids (handy for frame rate counters and enabling VRR), so you can tailor things a little more closely to your specific use case.

Ports are plentiful with a pair of HDMI 2.1 ports (ideal for your PS5), as well as USB-A ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack for connecting speakers. There is also a DisplayPort 2.1 connection, which is a perfect pairing with a powerful gaming rig.

Although the Inzone M10S is marketed as a gaming monitor, it’s worth pointing out that I’m writing this review about it. This is despite being considerably smaller than my existing Ultrawide monitor, and this is mainly due to the excellent brightness of its OLED panel.

This means that switching from work to play is a joy, as it’s paired with an astonishing 480Hz refresh rate, meaning if your GPU can do it, everything is almost supernatural.

I spent some time with my favorite games with my NVIDIA GeForce 4070 TI and found Destiny 2 to feel like a new game even though it usually played at around 120 FPS, while Overwatch 2 and VALORANT also seemed more fluids that I had never seen.

Your choice of game (and how it performs at an unlocked frame rate) will make a big difference, but NVIDIA G-SYNC is supported out of the box if you prefer to rely on it.

When it comes to the M10S, there’s really only one downside. To get these best specs, you’ll have to dig deep.

My only complaint (and it’s very subjective) is that I wish the monitor was just a bit larger for working on multiple windows side by side. Over $1,000 for 27 inches makes it seem like it’s a monitor for gamers, but not always for the rest of us.

At this point you’ll need to connect your own external speakers, so consider that if you’re trying to stay on a budget. Naturally, you can always use headphones (and Sony has its own Inzone offerings in this regard), but for working with Spotify a bit, you might want something with its own audio output.

If you’re using a PS5, it’s worth considering that while auto genre picture mode is supported (so the screen switches between the best settings for movies or games), auto tone mapping HDR isn’t – so you’ll need to set your own HDR settings (or use the default, which I found pretty accurate anyway).

With an almost unbelievable refresh rate paired with a gorgeous QD-OLED panel, it feels like Sony’s Inzone M10S hits a sweet spot that will make it hard to put down for tournament gamers on console or PC.

The price is high, so it will absolutely only be worth it for those with high esports aspirations and serious enthusiasts.

For those looking to game on a larger screen like this without needing that 0.03ms response time, there are few better combinations of frame rate and display technology. But for the high price, you get a magical monitor here.
