He was “hours away from death” when he underwent life-saving emergency surgery to relieve fluid buildup around his heart.

Even though it has been two years since his health problems began, Martin still experiences tightness in his chest and mild panic attacks.

However, he refused to slow down and took part in a new TV show about his pub renovation.

But in a new interview, he candidly admitted that he doesn’t know “how much time he has left,” so he’s trying to do everything his body allows him, while he still can.

Martin told MailOnline: ‘The physical side of things took a lot longer than expected. I still have tightness.

“Every time I get a twinge in my chest, I panic. As anyone who has had heart problems would say.”

He continued: “It sends you into a wave of worry because they’re just telling these stories after the fact.

“It was like I went to the consultant who did the emergency surgery, and I said, ‘So how long would I have survived?’

“He said, ‘Well, you probably wouldn’t have survived the night.'”

Martin also revealed that the doctor told him he was “two or three hours from death.”

He added that his biggest fears were “not being here, not seeing the kids, not realizing all my ambitions and not doing everything I wanted to do.”

But he refuses to slow down. He is continuing his project to renovate the Hendrewem Hotel pub.

However, he enlisted the help of local children, including those who are disengaged and disadvantaged, to learn a new skill, so as not to overdo it.

He said: “I was told I needed to slow down and take things slowly and all that kind of stuff, and I took a completely different path.”

“I’m just doing a lot of good. I don’t know how much time I have left, so I just want to do whatever I can to help.

“It’s not really about money. It’s just about making a difference, because that’s what you’ll be remembered for. »

What is a pericardial effusion?

Pericardial effusion is the accumulation of too much fluid in the double-layered, sac-like structure around the heart (pericardium).

This can put pressure on the heart, affecting its functioning. If left untreated, it can lead to heart failure or death in extreme cases.

Symptoms include:

  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Discomfort when breathing while lying down
  • Chest pain, usually behind the breastbone or on the left side of the chest
  • Thoracic fullness
  • Dizziness or feeling weak
  • Swelling of the abdomen or legs
