Jacksonville police search for shooter after gunfire erupts at Norwood nightclub, injuring two people

Shots were fired at Elevation Lounge in Jacksonville early Thursday morning and two men were sent to the hospital.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, it all started around 2 a.m. Thursday when one of the victims – a man in his 20s – fought with the suspect, before gunshots rang out. burst. That’s when the victim was shot in the back, abdomen and foot. He was admitted in critical condition to a Jacksonville hospital Thursday evening. Another man in his thirties who was simply in the same area was shot in the forearm and foot. He was also sent to the hospital, but is expected to survive.

“An innocent bystander…the bullet doesn’t have a name on it,” Terry Wilkins told Action News Jax, criticizing the senseless violence.

Wilkins regularly works out at Planet Fitness right across the street from the Elevation Lounge, telling Action News Jax that it’s certainly unsettling to have a shooting like this so close – even more so with a school right across the street. the street.

“Not even for my safety, because I can defend myself, but (for) the 8-year-old kid riding the bus,” Wilkins emphasized.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said Thursday morning that the shooter also fled the scene and has not yet been identified.

Anderson Williams, a Norwood resident who lives near the lounge turned crime scene, is now calling on the community to do a better job of combating gun violence and putting away weapons.

“Violence is never really the answer, especially for something very temporary, like in a club,” Williams told Action News Jax. “Everyone’s trying to go to the club to have fun and stuff, so I really don’t support that.”

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is also now asking anyone with information to call immediately.
