The acceptance of chaos swirls through Maria Tomazou’s “The Tornado Outside” – Colossal

Anna’s neighbor is a tornado. Constantly out of step with her surroundings, the young woman protects herself from chaos by staying indoors, tending to small details like placing books on the shelves and adjusting the crooked frames on the wall.

One day, strong winds knock the house sideways, forcing her to venture right outside the front door. When the powerful vortex drags Anna and her keys into its chaos, she must face the reality of unpredictability.

“The Tornado Outside” is the creation of animation director Maria Tomazou, alongside a production team from England’s National Film and Television School. The award-winning short film was brought to life in stop motion over the course of a year. According to Tomazou, almost every element of the film was animated suspended in the air with platforms.
