Singer Mika Singh recently opened up about his success “Sawan Mein Lag Gayi Aag” and a fun connection with legendary lyricist Javed Akhtar. In an interview with The Lallantop, Mika confessed that early in his career, he falsely attributed the song’s lyrics to Javed Akhtar and its music to AR Rahman to gain credibility.

“When I made the song, I was asking everyone if they liked it,” Mika explained. “They were asking me who wrote it, and I knew if I said I wrote it, they wouldn’t take the song seriously. So, I would tell people that Javed Akhtar helped write it and AR Rahman helped with the music.

Pulling Javed Akhtar’s ear: a memorable encounter

Mika Singh also shared a humorous anecdote about his first meeting with Javed Akhtar. Describing himself as “a bit ill-mannered” at the time, Mika recounted how he once pulled Javed Akhtar’s ear at an awards ceremony to get his attention.

“I love Javed Saab. I met him several times at some concerts, but he didn’t pay any attention to me. It was just after ‘Ganpat’ was out. We were at an awards ceremony and I was supposed to enter in grand style. I thought Javed Saab would definitely notice me, but he didn’t,” recalls Mika.

Desperate to be recognized, Mika jumped onto a table and pulled Javed Akhtar’s ear. “I jumped on the table and pulled his ear. His head turned back, I touched his feet and told him I was a big fan. He said, “Jaao.” I really want him to notice me and praise my work, but he always ignores me at first,” Mika said with a laugh.

A hilarious miscommunication with AR Rahman

Mika also shared a comical interaction with AR Rahman. Nervous because of his weak English, Mika accidentally said, “One day, you will work with me,” instead of expressing admiration by saying, “One day, I hope to work with you.”

“I was mortified when I found out that what I said could be interpreted as being rude,” Mika admitted, reflecting on the accident.
