Sacramento is 13-18 this season and is currently on a five-game losing streak. But parting ways with the 2023 Coach of the Year wasn’t on the bingo card for likely moves, especially since he was extended through 2027 just this past offseason.

Still, the Kings feel this is a way forward and see the move as a way to salvage things. Sacramento named assistant Doug Christie as interim head coach and they will likely conduct a more in-depth search this offseason to find a permanent solution.

But for now, Sacramento is focused on turning around the year. This team still has the playoffs in their sights and wants to remain competitive.

Following Brown’s firing, Kings guard Malik Monk had a direct message for the Sacramento fan base. It was a message of positivity and something fans could use.

“Sorry, fans. We’re going to turn this around.”

If the Kings want to turn things around, they’ll have to start fast. Sacramento opens Christie’s coaching tenure without Brown against the Los Angeles Lakers, a team that has already beaten them three times this season.

Additionally, Sacramento has made headlines regarding trade rumors surrounding point guard De’Aaron Fox. If anything, getting to the playoffs might calm them down and keep Fox happy, at least for now.

Fox has started to want to stay in Sacramento, but it’s the victory that speaks most for the star players. The guard challenged the Kings to continue to compete at a high level, even before Brown was fired.

“But I want to make sure we’re in this position to compete and compete at a high level for a long time, not just fighting for a playoff spot. Obviously the direction the West is going, we have to continue to improve as players and as a team, as an organization, And, I mean, I’m not saying I’m not staying or I’m staying, but I would love to be here, and I. want to make sure we compete in one. high level.

The Kings have the pieces in place to compete in the Western Conference, but it will be up to them to execute everything. With Brown out of the picture, there can be no more excuses for this team to move forward.
