Gray, 28, has not settled since his £8million move from Everton last year.

His family is in England and he wants a return Prem.

Fulham held talks with Gray before moving to Saudi Arabia and manager Marco Silva remains keen.

The Portuguese coach led Fulham to eighth place in the top flight and will be awarded money for the January transfer window in order to strengthen a team which is now aiming for European qualification.

Crystal Palace and Besiktas had also expressed interest in Gray previously, before he chose to move to Saudi Arabia.

He scored 12 goals in 75 games for Everton and played for Bayer Leverkusen and Leicester after playing for Birmingham at an early age.

Fulham could fund Gray’s move by selling runaway star Andreas Pereira.

Brazilian side Palmeiras are tracking Pereira and have reportedly made a £14million bid for his services.

But it is understood that Fulham will only consider selling if the midfielder requests a transfer.

Pereira was ruled out earlier this month after saying it would be “very cool” to join Marseille amid interest from the French club.
