Hyderabad: Crime against women recorded an increase of almost 5 percent in 2024 in Telangana. A total of 241 women were murdered this year in various cases, while 2,945 women were raped and 1,122 kidnapped. The state reported 5,940 cases of indecent exposure.

The number of female victims in murder cases has surpassed the 200 mark in the past two years, with 241 murders in 2024 and 213 the year before. In 2022, this number rose to 181. In 2021, a total of 199 women were murdered and in 2020, 161.

In rape cases, the highest number of victims were in the 15-18 age group, with 1,970 cases reported, followed by 888 people aged over 18. “Relationships between adolescent girls are becoming a growing area of ​​concern,” said Additional DG, Women’s Safety Section. Shikha Goel.

In rape and POCSO cases, police arrested suspects quickly and, in fact, 940 arrests were made within eight hours of the incident being reported to police. In 428 cases of rape and POCSO, compensation of 5.42 crores was awarded to the victims by the authorities concerned.
