Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia sworn in as Chief Justice of Himachal High Court

The oath of office was administered by Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla. The ceremony was also held in the presence of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia was sworn in as the new Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court in a ceremony held at Raj Bhawan on Sunday.

The oath of office was administered by Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla. The ceremony was also attended by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena conducted the formal proceedings of the ceremony and read out the warrant of appointment issued by the President of India.

After taking oath, Justice Sandhawalia said that Himachal Pradesh felt like home.

“Himachal Pradesh is a relatively small state with fewer criminal cases, most of them service-related and civil cases. I will work collaboratively to resolve cases as quickly as possible,” he said.

CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu extended his sincere congratulations to Justice Sandhawalia on his swearing-in. CM Sukhu said, “I am confident that his vast experience and vision will greatly benefit Himachal Pradesh and further uplift the essence of justice. The CM expressed hope that Justice Sandhawalia’s judicial acumen will significantly contribute to upholding the principles of justice in the state.

Born on November 1, 1965, Justice Sandhawalia completed a BA (Hons) from DAV College, Chandigarh in 1986 and completed his LLB from Panjab University, Chandigarh in 1989. After completing his studies, he was enrolled as Advocate with the Punjab Bar Council. and Haryana, Chandigarh.

On 4 February 2024, he took charge as Acting Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
