Lee Kervin was taken to Aintree Hospital but died in the early hours of December 27.

Lee Kervin, 50, a former soldier, was described by his heartbroken family as a “talkative social butterfly” always ready to help people.

The family of a “quick-witted talkative” father killed in a Boxing Day hit-and-run have paid tribute to him. Lee Kervin was riding his bike when he was hit by a car on Dicks Lane in Ormskirk at around 6.46pm on December 26.

Police rushed to the scene after a cyclist heading towards Wigan Road on a Cross XC Range bike was struck by an unknown vehicle. The 50-year-old ex-serviceman was taken to Aintree Hospital but died in the early hours of December 27.

In a tribute by Lancashire Police today, December 29, his family said: “Beloved son of Barbara and John, and father of her son Brad. Uncle of two nieces and two nephews. Lee was a chatty, quick-witted social butterfly, always chatting to someone friendly, he loved having a pint and a chat.

“He was well known in the village of Parbold where he grew up with his siblings Allan and Dawn. Lee went out of his way to help everyone he could, always chatting and helping someone. He served his country in the army – in the Royal Green Jackets – in Northern Ireland and Sierra Leone, among other places. He left the military to become a single father to Brad.

“He took responsibility and loved raising Brad to become the man he is today. Lee lived in the Wigan area before returning to Parbold and eventually settling in Ormskirk. Lee held several jobs over the years, from gardening to working in the pub kitchen.

“He was the family handyman, always ready to fix his family’s failed DIY attempts. Lee had left a huge void in our close-knit little family, and we will miss him dearly.

Following the incident, a 29-year-old man from Burscough was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while unfit due to alcohol and drugs. He has since been released on conditional bail, pending further investigation.

Police also confirmed that a second person was arrested today – a 58-year-old man from Skelmersdale – on suspicion of causing death by driving dangerously and failing to stop at the scene of a collision, and that she is currently in police custody.

Officers are in the early stages of this investigation and are continuing to appeal for witnesses, CCTV/dashcam footage or anyone with information to contact the force. Detectives are keen to hear from anyone who saw or captured a Kia Sportage traveling in the area between 6.30pm and 7pm.

Anyone with information should email [email protected] or call 101, quoting log 0850 of December 26, 2024.
