‘I absolutely hate it’: Neighbors react to attempted kidnapping and hours-long standoff in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) — Neighbors in a Colorado Springs community say they are still in shock after a man allegedly broke into their homes trying to flee police Saturday. Police say this all stems from an alleged kidnapping attempt.

Police said Jason Cobb was arrested after an hours-long standoff in the Ivywild neighborhood.

The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) says Jason Cobb allegedly broke into his neighbor’s house while trying to get away from them. The two homes are connected and CSPD says he went through the attic and broke into the neighbor’s residence through the ceiling where he was found hiding.

It came as a shock to Jake Norment, who said he ran into police officers near his backyard.

“It started with just a few law enforcement officers and then it exploded and turned into more law enforcement officers,” Norment said.

After police helped the woman escape, they said Cobb refused to come out and they called for backup.

“They had blocked off all of our streets and there were SWAT teams everywhere. There were also drones flying all around,” Norment said. “I absolutely hate it. I think it’s really terrible. Ivywild is a really, really, really great neighborhood. It’s also pretty quiet. So to have something like that was absolutely crazy.”

Jason Cobb is being held without bail in the El Paso County Jail. As for the woman he allegedly kidnapped, she is safe, but the connection between the two is unclear as police continue to investigate.
