GAVIN And Stacey were the biggest thing on the box this festive season – but eagle-eyed fans noticed a “rookie mistake” in the show’s grand finale.

The heartbreak of a special ended with Smithy and Nessa finally getting married – after a five-year cliffhanger following Nessa’s shock proposal at the end of the last Christmas special.

The happy ending seemed unlikely at the start of the long episode, with viewers quickly learning that Smithy had said no in favor of staying with his smothering girlfriend Sonia.

But fans got what they dreamed of when Smithy, aided by Gavin and Stacey’s loved ones, fled his wedding to fiancée Sonia to the port of Southampton to intercept Nessa before setting sail after turning his back on Barry Island.

Led by former love rival Dave Coaches, the group arrived just in time for Smithy to speak to Nessa on the deck of a boat.

At first, she clearly told him that she would no longer ask him to marry her, forcing him to swallow his pride and propose.

Nessa eventually agreed, paving the way for a registry office wedding in front of the show’s most popular faces.

Amid all the drama, it was easy to miss a production error that revealed the harbor scene wasn’t filmed where it claimed to be.

Signs on the set read “Port of Southampton”. However, locals quickly realized that this couldn’t have been filmed in their town, as is certain. features just didn’t fit.

And they were right, because the scenes were filmed at Newport Docks, Walesmore than 120 miles away.

One person said: “The hills in the background look like a rookie mistake. »

Another posted on Facebook: “Having worked on Southampton Docks, I can tell you this was not Southampton Docks. »

Ultimately, the gaffe didn’t spoil the episode, which was watched by 12.3 million people.

Writers and co-stars James Corden, 46, and Ruth Jones, 58, gathered to watch the program as it aired.

Bryn appears to be hiding a secret about an event between him and his nephew Jason that left fractures in the relationship. Ness’s on-and-off boyfriend, Dave, is the only other person who knows the whole truth. Bryn seemed to be referring to him and Jason lying naked together for warmth as he told Dave: “We’re going to settle this, once and for all, man to man, you might know what happened happened, David, but you I don’t know why it happened! Islands in the stream – No one will ever be able to forget the classic karaoke performance of Islands in the Stream. Nessa and Bryn performed the song in front of all their loved ones. This saw the whole pub break into a line dance as they enjoyed a drunken night out.
The special Christmas proposal – In 2019, fans were delighted when the series made its return, but it ended on an ultimate cliffhanger. Nessa asked Smithy if she would marry him as she finally revealed her feelings for him.
