The convenience of online shopping has revolutionized the way we shop for essential products. But with the rise of these services, concerns about product quality and quantity have also arisen. Highlighting a similar issue, a user recently took to social media to express their disappointment over receiving over-skinny vegetables from Swiggy Instamart. Sharing a lengthy post on Reddit, the user accused that the actual amount of vegetables he received was less than advertised in the app.

This underweight delivery incident came to light after the customer decided to use a scale to weigh the vegetables he was receiving. To his surprise, he discovered that the cauliflower he received weighed only 145 grams. But the same vegetable was listed at 400-600 grams on the Swiggy app. He also mentioned that he also checked the weight of other vegetables after this incident and found that most of the vegetables were underweight.

Sharing photos of the product and weight displayed in the app as well as the one he measured, he wrote: “One of the vegetables (cauliflower) made me check the weight of all the others. Most of the vegetables were underweight.” He shared screenshots revealing that he only received 965 grams of potatoes compared to the 1 kg he ordered, and 170 grams of peppers instead of 250 grams.

What was even more shocking was that when he raised the issue with Swiggy customer support, he received an unsatisfactory response. The customer shared screenshots of their measurements and chatted with the Swiggy support team. He demanded a replacement or full refund of Rs 177. In response to this, Swiggy Instamart customer care executives refused to refund the full amount and instead offered Rs 89 as compensation.

In his post, the customer also mentioned that Swiggy’s support team, including its escalation team, were “shameless” as they were not ready to replace the items and were trying to give them a partial refund. The user added that he had reported the issue. problem to the government’s INGRAM consumer helpline and also mailed to his bank to cancel the credit of the amount.

In the end, the Reddit user said: “Lesson learned: don’t trust weight stickers on products. Check them and file a complaint when a discrepancy is observed.

The post was shared on Reddit three days ago and since then it has caught the attention of several Reddit users, leaving social media enraged. To date, the share has attracted dozens of comments from users who criticized Swiggy Instamart for misleading customers. A majority of users exclaimed that this was not an “innocent” mistake but a consistent pattern by Swiggy.

“It’s not about the refund, it’s about the shady and manipulative tricks that Swiggy continues to do. Think about how many orders they deliver each day and how often they fall short of what’s printed on the stickers. This is not an innocent mistake; it’s a system. They’re probably raking in billions every day from these little mistakes,” one Reddit user wrote.

One person said: “Looks like I need a scale now. »

“Not surprised. They do this for all fruits, vegetables and meats. You pay way more than the real price,” said another.

An account question: “I have a digital scale. I have underweight products. Same story, refunded me 50% and I accepted. Then I realized: what about the others who don’t have a scale? How widespread is this practice? »

“It should be a direct case in a consumer court, they should be fined and you can follow the case by cheating,” suggested one user.

Taking to the comments section of the post, the official Swiggy account replied, “Hello, this is not the experience we are aiming for. Please write to us at [email protected] with the details, and the team will get back to you.”
