Katie Lee Biegel Just Shared a Comforting Cabbage Dish, and It’s Her “New Favorite Recipe”

Cabbage is perhaps the most underrated vegetable. It’s so versatile that it makes a great base for salads, makes a delicious plant-based main dish, and makes a delicious addition to your favorite comforting soup. It’s safe to say that cabbage is a star, and Katie Lee Biegel agrees. In a recent Instagram video, Biegel shared a cabbage recipe that she says is as delicious as it looks.

“Maple Brown Butter Miso Cabbage might just be my new favorite recipe I’ve created in a long time,” Biegel shared in Reel’s caption. Here’s why she loves this vegetarian dish and why you should try it right away, plus some other cabbage recipes to give a taste.

You only need 5 key ingredients to recreate Biegel’s Brown Butter Maple Miso Slaw, plus salt, pepper, and oil. Here are the measurements provided in its newsletter:

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter

  • 3 tablespoons of maple syrup

  • 3 tablespoons of white miso paste

  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced

  • 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil

  • 1 medium-sized green cabbage, cut into 2-inch wedges

  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

After browning the butter in a saucepan, Biegel adds his miso paste and maple syrup, stirring “gently” until the liquids are combined. Lowering the heat, the Food Network star mixes in the minced garlic. Once the miso is dissolved in the butter, she sets the mixture aside and begins preparing the cabbage wedges.

In a large ovenproof skillet with olive oil over medium-high heat, Biegel cooks his cabbage wedges, turning them until each side is golden brown. After seasoning with salt and pepper, she brushes the cabbage with half of her sweet, nutty brown butter miso sauce. In a 400°F oven, Biegel bakes the cabbage for 20 minutes, then repeats the process by removing the cabbage from the oven, brushing with the remaining sauce and baking for another 15 to 20 minutes.

The result is a beautiful and comforting dish that is as flavorful as it is fragrant. The kitchen the co-host explains why the marriage of these flavors goes together so well.
