YouTube Music Launches 2024 Recap With “Your Musical Character”

YouTube Music Launches 2024 Recap With “Your Musical Character”

YouTube Music is already rolling out the 2024 recap to streaming service users. The summary builds on previous annual updates of your listening habits.

On Android and iOS, you can now see a banner stating that your “2024 Recap is here” after scrolling through the newly added “Speed Dial” section in the YouTube Music app.

Alternatively, you can check if your 2024 recap is ready by tapping your profile avatar in the top right corner and opening the ‘Your recap’ option. Now tap “Get Your Recap” to get an Instagram-like story or use options like “Top Tracks,” “Your Playlist,” “Top Artists,” “Listening Timeline” and more to access a collection or a specific section. You might also have luck by going to yt.be/music/recap.

When your story is ready, you’ll get a guided overview of the “vibe” of the music you’ve been listening to throughout 2024, with options like “Hyped” and “Pumped up” featuring prominently in my own summary. From there, it’s all about the numbers with YouTube Music noting how many minutes you’ve listened to different types of music, artists, specific tracks and even lets you save your playlist Summary 2024 for later listening.

YouTube Music has made a big push to promote podcasts and spoken word media over the past year and the 2024 roundup is the first to include podcast listening stats. From what we can tell, this includes video podcasts in the total.

Last year the theme was your album cover, this year it’s “Your musical character”. Your listening habits translate into a designated persona. In my case it was “The Muscle” due to listening to “energetic hits” – for which drum and bass is considered 100%.

We’re seeing the auto-generated playlists and 2024 recap popping up on several YouTube Music accounts and it appears that their rollout is slow, as noted in previous reports. Let us know what got tagged to you as part of your own recap below.
