“My heating costs have been cut in half”

“My heating costs have been cut in half”

Heat pumps work by transferring heat from one location to another. In summer, they capture heat from inside the home and reject it outside, and in winter, the exchange is in the opposite direction, working to both heat and cool your home.

In a viral TikTok video aptly titled “people who say you can’t do heat pumps in cold climates don’t know anything,” creator Dippy debunks this common assumption, showing off his Mitsubishi heat pump system.

Even if the surrounding ground is covered in ice and snow, heat pumps are still able to extract heat from the air to keep the home warm. Mitsubishi’s newest system can maintain 100% capacity down to 5 degrees Fahrenheit with guaranteed heating down to -13 degrees Fahrenheit.

Studies have shown that installing a heat pump system similar to Mitsubishi’s can save homeowners around $1,000 on their annual energy bills, not including any potential tax credits dependent on the location.

Unlike traditional gas heating systems, heat pumps don’t burn dirty energy to create heat. Instead, they “recycle” heat already in the air. This eliminates harmful air pollution and makes temperature control in homes more sustainable.

Because of how they work, people often incorrectly assume that when it is cold outside, heat pumps will no longer have heat to draw inside and will stop working.

Heat pumps are not only good for your pockets and the environment, but they could also provide health benefits. Natural gas heaters are known to release toxic air pollutants, potentially harmful to people who inhale them.

Installing a heat pump is a big step toward upgrading your home with safer, cleaner, more economical appliances.

Several TikTok viewers took to the comments to rave about their own heat pump systems, with one saying: “My heating costs were cut in half when I installed a heat pump heat for the whole house. Total electric bill of $1,600 per year with 1,600 square foot air conditioning in New York. “

Another user bragged about their heat pump’s functionality in even colder conditions than those shown in the video: “My house was 85F while it was 11F outside (-11 after the wind chill). J I also have a Mitsubishi.”
