The candidate will not receive any salary for the first year

What is the story

In a rather unconventional move, Zomato founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal announced a job opening for the position of ‘Chief of Staff’ in his company.

Goyal made the announcement via a post on LinkedIn where he detailed the unique requirements of this role.

The chosen candidate will have to pay a “fee” of ₹20 lakh to Zomato and will not receive any salary for the first year.

Opportunity fee to be donated to charity

The 20 lakh “fee” demanded from the future Chief of Army Staff will be donated directly to the charity Feeding India.

Goyal clarified this in his job posting on LinkedIn, stating that “100% of this ‘fee’ will be paid in the form of a donation directly to Feeding India (if you are offered the position and you accept it) .

Zomato to match ‘fees’ with charitable donation

As a sign of commitment, Zomato has agreed to match the “fees” with a charitable donation of its own.

The company will donate an amount equivalent to the chief of staff’s salary, ₹50 lakh, to a charity of the selected candidate’s choice.

This decision aims to demonstrate that the company’s intentions are not motivated by financial considerations.

Salary discussions will begin from the 2nd year

The candidate chosen for the position of Chief of Staff of Zomato will start receiving a salary from their second year of employment.

The exact amount, which Goyal believes will be more than ₹50 lakh, will be discussed at the start of this period.

This unorthodox method is designed to attract candidates more interested in learning than money.

Role expectations and application process

The chief of staff is expected to play a pivotal role in the future of Zomato and its associated brands such as Blinkit, District, Hyperpure and Feeding India.

Goyal stressed that he was looking for “down-to-earth” candidates with “no entitlement”.

Interested candidates can apply for the position by emailing a 200-word cover letter to [email protected].
