Getaway driver gets jail time for murder of security guard at local nightclub

A person has pleaded guilty for his role in a fatal shooting of a security guard earlier this year.

On January 29, Darnell Pate, Jr. was found shot to death in his vehicle after leaving his job as a security guard at the Napoleon Palace off Germantown Pike. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office previously told News Center 7 that Pate’s death was a “targeted killing.”

Through the investigation, the suspected shooter and an accomplice were identified.

On November 13, the accomplice, Julien Swindle, 22, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and aggravated robbery. He was sentenced to 15 to 19.5 years in prison for his role as a getaway driver in the deadly shooting and another armed robbery that occurred the same day, according to the sheriff’s office.

The man accused of shooting Pate, Sha’King Jones, 26, was arrested in February and charged with several counts, including murder, felonious assault, robbery and possession of disabled weapons.

Jones is still awaiting trial and remains incarcerated in the Montgomery County Jail.
