Former Netflix producer Dimpy Agrawal’s production banner Gubbara Entertainment has unveiled a slate of six projects at India’s Film Bazaar, including a project starring Anasuya Sengupta, which made history as the first Indian actor to win best performance at Certain Regard in Cannes for “The Shameless”. .”

Sengupta will title the short film “Ma,” written by Columbia University fine arts graduate Riddhi Talreja (“Sadak Chaap”), which examines women’s identity and motherhood in contemporary Indian society. The project paired cinematographer Amal Sudhakaran, whose work has appeared on Netflix, Amazon and Discovery, with a credit earning Emmy recognition.

The list includes “Puthussery Police Case” from writer-director Nithin Lukose, whose first “Paka: River of Blood” premiered in Toronto in 2021. The Kerala-set drama follows a lawyer investigating the death of his father on background of tiger threatening a man. rural village.

“Ummeed”, a psychological horror exploring same-sex relationships and fertility in Delhi, comes from “Pari” and “Pataal Lok” writer Abhishek Banerjee. Ambiecka Pandit is in talks to direct.

Venice Film Festival alumna Sushma Khadepaun presents “Anita,” based on her award-winning short film of the same name, which screened in Venice in 2020. The Indian-American co-production follows an Indian woman’s quest for independence in through an arranged marriage in America. .

Banerjee is also adapting journalist Puja Changoiwala’s book “Gangster on the Run”, about a former criminal turned ultra-marathoner, in co-production with Rohit Ved Prakash and Kanchan Marathe.

Rounding out the list, “Red Market,” based on Scott Carney’s book about human trafficking and organ trade, was made in co-production with Criss Cross Content and Jugaad Motion Pictures.

Gubbara unveiled a $1 million script development fund aimed at empowering Indian filmmakers at the Cannes Film Festival market earlier this year.

“We focused on developing by telling stories that challenge belief systems, engage emotionally and generate meaningful impact,” Agrawal said. “We foster global connections through international co-productions and meaningful collaborations. By building bridges between cultures and pushing the boundaries of creativity, we hope to redefine storytelling on the global stage.

The company’s first short film, “Chashma,” is currently screening on the festival circuit, while several other projects are in the early stages of development.

Film Bazaar (November 20-24) is the commercial component of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI, November 20-28) in Goa.
