What is the story

Australia’s seasoned opener Usman Khawaja will be instrumental in his team’s success in the upcoming five-Test series against India, which begins on November 22 at the Optus Stadium in Perth.

Notably, the left-hander is set to become the country’s oldest Test cricketer in over two decades.

He will be 38 years old in December. Meanwhile, here we take a look at his home testing stats.

An average of over 50 in home tests

According to ESPNcricinfoKhawaja has collected 2,855 runs in 36 home Tests at 52.87. Nine of its 15-ton test returned home.

The count also includes 13 fifties. 1,018 of his home runs came as openers.

He scores a brilliant average of 50.90 in this regard. Khawaja’s total of 1,001 home tests is the highest for an Australian since 2022 (average: 52.68).

Khawaja’s ambition to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Despite his successful 13-year Test career, Khawaja never won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with Australia.

However, he is hopeful about Australia’s chances against India in the upcoming series Down Under.

The left-hander has scored 544 runs in nine Tests against India, averaging just 34 (50:3, 100:1).

198 of these races took place in Australia at 28.28.

Khawaja’s impressive return to Test cricket

Despite being left out of Australia’s Test squad ahead of the 2019/20 summer, Khawaja made a stunning comeback in the 2021/22 Ashes series.

Since then, he has been Australia’s top scorer in Test cricket with 2,564 runs at an average of 53.41, including seven centuries and 12 fifties.

Only the Englishman Joe Root (3,223) is ahead of him over this period.

A look at his overall testing numbers

Khawaja made his Test debut in 2011. He has scored 5,451 runs in 73 matches at 45.80.

He slammed 15 hundreds and 26 fifties, with the highest score of 195* (against South Africa).

The southpaw has scored 2,354 and 242 runs at away and neutral venues, averaging 39.23 and 48.40, respectively.

Khawaja averages 54.03 to open the Test, having collected 2,810 runs.

Most tests are done for Australia after the 35th birthday

According to Fox cricketKhawaja has the most Tests for Australia after the 35th birthday. The senior opener, with 2,564 points, is just ahead of Steve Waugh (2,554). No other Australian has more than 2,500 runs in that regard.
