China steps up health aid, offers scholarships – FBC News

Fiji’s health sector is expected to benefit from a strengthened partnership with the Chinese government, which is committed to providing additional support tailored to the specific needs of hospitals.

Chinese Ambassador to Fiji, Zhou Jian, said the ongoing collaboration will continue to focus on both immediate medical assistance and long-term capacity building in the sector.

The cooperation is not only about offering free medical services, but also includes a strategic focus on staff training.

“We would also like to provide doctors with instrument facilities, and we are also willing to facilitate the exchange of doctors and government department officials to promote medical development in Fiji.”

Jian adds that the focus will be on providing scholarships for Fijian health professionals to continue their studies in China.

“The scholarships are intended for doctors who wish to continue their studies in China, and we will do more in this direction in the future. And also, you know, now, you know, the Chinese province of Guangdong has established very close health cooperation with Fiji.

As part of this ongoing collaboration, China is also committed to providing critical medical equipment and technology to support Fiji’s health infrastructure.
