PSNI investigating alleged ‘hate crime’ at Belfast school – The Irish News

The PSNI is investigating a suspected “hate crime” incident in a Belfast school playground.

A number of reports of assaults have been made regarding the incident at the Belfast Model School for Girls on Tuesday.

In a letter sent to parents, headteacher Paula Stuart sought to assure parents that the allegations were being fully investigated and called for an end to rumors on social media regarding the incident.

A PSNI statement said: “Police have received a number of reports of an assault at a school in north Belfast on Tuesday 12 November. »

The force said the investigation into the incident was ongoing.

DUP MP for North Belfast Brian Kingston said the incident caused serious concern in the local community.

“I spoke to the chairman of the board of the Girls Model School this morning about the serious fight that took place yesterday,” Mr Kingston said.

“She tells me that the school is fully aware of this incident witnessed by members of staff and that the school is handling this in accordance with Education Authority guidelines.

“The PSNI, EA and parents of the pupils concerned have all been informed and are now also involved. This incident caused great concern within the school community.

“We have requested a meeting with the school principal regarding this matter and will continue to monitor progress as it is addressed by the school management and other relevant statutory authorities.”
