Omro Police Warn of Utility Bill Scam

OMRO, Wis. (WBAY) – The Omro Police Department is warning of a scam claiming people have an overdue water bill.

Police shared on Facebook an email an Omro resident received with the subject line “URGENT LATE WATER SERVICE PAYMENT.”

The email claimed they had an outstanding balance of more than $1,100 and included a link to view their bill.

It claims to be from the Omro Water and Sewerage Department, through the real utility called Omro Water and Sewerage Department, and the police claim that the Omro Water and Sewerage Department would not contact never email anyone about a late payment.

As we’ve previously reported on Consumer First Alert, if you receive a late notice or other unexpected bill, contact the biller directly using a phone number you know is legitimate and verify with them.
