New CEC, 4 EC will be sworn in tomorrow

DHAKA, Nov 23, 2024 (BSS) – The newly appointed Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and four other Election Commissioners (ECs) will be
take the oath tomorrow.

“The swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners will take place tomorrow at the Supreme Court Judges’ Lounge at 1:30 p.m.,” said M Shafiqul Islam, Public Relations Officer of the Appellate Division of the Court. Supreme Court.

Earlier on November 21, President Mohammed Shahabuddin appointed former AMM secretary Nasir Uddin as the new CEC and four other election commissioners under Article 118 (1) of the constitution.

The other four ECs are: former secretary M Anwarul Islam Sarker, retired district and sessions judge Abdur Rahman Masud, retired joint secretary Begum Tahmida Ahmad and Brigadier General (retired) Abul Fazal Sanaullah.

The Cabinet Division on Thursday issued separate notifications in the Official Gazette for this purpose.

The new EC was formed based on the recommendation of the six-member search committee.

The government formed the search committee headed by Appellate Division Judge Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury on October 29, in accordance with clause 3 of the “Appointment of Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners Act, 2022 “.

The search committee recommended the names of qualified individuals for the positions of the CEC and other commissioners.
