Wet weather quashes suspect’s attempts to flee police

West Coast RCMP say charges are pending after a quantity of contraband cigarettes and crack cocaine were found in a vehicle that got stuck while trying to evade police.

Police say a 47-year-old Deer Lake man was arrested after fleeing a traffic stop. As he attempted to flee, the vehicle got stuck in the mud and the man had to abandon the vehicle and dismount.

He was recovered shortly afterwards.

RCMP said more than 150 cartons of contraband cigarettes, a quantity of crack cocaine and drug trafficking related items were found inside the vehicle.

The investigation continues and charges are laid.
