In the Northern Hemisphere, spring may seem far away, but it’s never too early to plan. A gardener has shown an amazing way to use an egg carton to help sow seeds.

Tania (@jumping_bulb) is a homeowner and gardener who shares tips for growing your own food and running a farm. In one clip, they show how to use egg cartons in your garden to easily create holes for seeds.

To start, grab an old egg carton, preferably sturdy, as you’ll be applying some pressure. In a prepared garden bed or raised planter, simply press the egg carton into the soil to create a dozen small plugs.

Repeat this process wherever you plan to plant seeds. Tania plants radishes in the video and appears to cover about half of the raised bed with small clumps. Once you have created all of your holes, place a seed in each spot – some plants may require multiple seeds.

Next, cover your seeds with a layer of soil and gently press them to set them. The last step is to water everything well. Keep your garden moist and you should have seedlings in no time.
