Meta Promises Long Overdue Improvements to Its Threads App and Here’s What Users Can Expect

Tech giant Meta just made a promise to its users on Threads, pledging to make changes that many have been waiting for months.

The news comes as competition with rival apps X and Bluesky intensifies. And it would not be wrong to claim that most of the changes are reflective of those seen elsewhere.

This will involve precise search options and expanded trending topics. Below we’ve listed everything you need to know.

For starters, users can now search for posts from a certain date range or through single accounts. This is much like what was seen when searching for X. Meanwhile, Threads is even testing another trending page for its US audience that involves more topics to follow. You can even expect AI-generated summaries to compile everything users are talking about.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri mentioned in a recent blog post that the trial would begin today. It’s been a week full of new updates on the app and also fears of competition from its main rival Bluesky. The latter has seen many users flocking to the app in recent times.

Earlier this week, Threads launched a custom feeds option that allows users to pin multiple curated feeds to its homepage. They can produce personalized feeds for specific topics or any account and even add more flexibility that goes beyond the usual algorithm-produced recommendations. And while the feature has been on Bluesky for a while now, Meta explained how it wants its own version and will see it launch very soon.

Meanwhile, one of the most anticipated changes on the app is how the feed displays content that is irrelevant and boring to many. Many users complained about this and even gave Bluesky’s default flow as the ideal template to take inspiration from. It is personalized according to users’ tastes and interests, showing them exactly what interests them.

Now we can confirm thanks to Mosseri how Meta works to tweak the algorithm and prioritize all posts from those you follow. This is a serious change in the way the app categorizes content. Now the question is whether the change would make the feed more up to date, because seeing outdated posts isn’t fun for anyone.

Some have gone so far as to call the Threads feed dead due to the party’s delay in sharing recent updates. Either way, we’re happy that Threads is stepping up their game and we don’t blame them.
