Nirmal: The movement of another tiger continued to trigger panic among the rural population of Kanakapur and Parimandal villages of Laxmanachanda Mandal for the second day on Sunday.

Nagini Banu, district forest officer, said tiger marks were recorded in a cotton crop on the outskirts of Parimandal village. She said they were tracking the movement of the tiger by installing CCTV cameras and deploying animal trackers. She noted that the sex and age of the tiger had not yet been determined.

Forest officials suspected that a male tiger, named S-12, sighted in the Tiryani forests, might have drifted towards Nirmal district to hunt a popular male tiger by the name of Johnny who was moving in this landscape ago a few days.

Belonging to the Painganga Wildlife Sanctuary in Nanded and Yavatmal districts of Maharashtra, Johnny recently returned to his home state after unsuccessfully trying to find a mate after traveling over 350 kilometers through the forests of the districts of Adilabad and Nirmal for about a month.

The S-12 recently roamed the forests of Luxettipet and Kasipet mandals. A few months ago, he first strayed into the forests of Kumram Bheem Asifabad district from Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve, in search of territory.

Authorities advised villagers to be careful and avoid a sudden confrontation with the tiger. They urged farmers not to harm the tiger by installing electrified fences intended to prevent wild animals from damaging crops. They added that compensation would be promptly provided to farmers if their livestock were killed by the tiger.

Meanwhile, residents of Kanakapur and Parimandal villages claimed to have spotted a tiger in the agricultural fields. They requested the authorities to take steps to avoid loss of life by diverting the tiger deep into the forests. They regretted having blocked the cotton harvest following the movement of the feline.
