8th Salary Commission: More than a million central government employees and pensioners are waiting for the formation of the 8th Pay Commission, which will lead to an increase in their payments. Given the upward trend in inflation, an increase in wages is a major concern. The last 7th Pay Commission will celebrate its 10th anniversary in January 2026.

8th Pay Commission: When will it be constituted?

Usually, the central government constitutes a salary commission every 10 years. The current 7th Pay Commission was established in 2014 and its recommendations were implemented from January 2016, exactly 10 years after the implementation of the 6th Pay Commission on January 1, 2006.

Central government employees are demanding the government to form the 8th Pay Commission now so that they can be implemented by January 2026, as it will take months for the panel to come up with recommendations.

However, according to reports, the 8th Pay Commission is expected to be established in 2025. The reports come after the government denied its creation for now.

A senior employee union official said news18.com that several representatives of central government employees recently met the Cabinet Secretary to present the demands of the 8th Pay Commission.

“The secretary said the year 2026 was ‘too far away’ and it was too early to form the commission now,” the trade unionist said, adding that the 8th Pay Commission would likely be formed next year .

8th salary commission: how much will salaries increase?

Although the salaries of central government employees were increased by around 23 percent in the current 7th Pay Commission, they were increased much more in the previous 6th Pay Commission.

However, as per reports, the minimum wage after the 8th Pay Commission will be increased to around Rs 34,500 from Rs 18,000 currently.

8th Remuneration Commission: DA increase formula likely to be revised

Currently, the increase in DA is done according to the formula of the 7th Pay Commission. However, the formula could also be revised as the Economic Survey 2024 suggested that India’s inflation targeting framework should consider excluding food inflation.

“The DA hike formula is likely to be revised during the 8th Pay Commission,” the trade unionist said.
