5 renewable energy projects to watch in the UAE

According to the Dubai Net Zero Emissions Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, clean energy is expected to account for 100% of energy generation capacity by 2050. Read on to learn more about several key renewable energy projects in the UAE.

Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is the largest single-site solar park in the world. With investments totaling AED50 billion, by 2030 the project is expected to have a production capacity of 5,000 MW. Once completed, the project will reduce annual carbon emissions by more than 6.5 million tonnes. Owned by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), the sixth phase will provide clean energy to 540,000 residences in Dubai and reduce approximately 2.36 million tonnes of carbon emissions per year.

The mega solar park is being built by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).

Al-Ajban Solar Park in Abu Dhabi

The Al-Ajban Solar Park in Abu Dhabi will have a power generation capacity of 1,500 MW (AC) and it is expected that around 160,000 homes across the UAE will receive electricity from the project. Once fully operational, the project could reduce CO2 emissions by up to 2.4 million metric tons per year. One of three solar energy initiatives supporting the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 strategic initiative and the UAE Energy Strategy 2050, the other two projects include Noor Abu Dhabi and the UAE Solar PV Project. Solar power plant in zone A of KEZAD – Al Ma’mourah (Abu Dhabi)

With an investment of AED55 million, the KEZAD – Al Ma’moura Zone A Solar Power Plant will manufacture integrated photovoltaic modules and solar panels for businesses seeking to transition to more energy-efficient ecosystems. The factory covers more than 27,000 m2 and represents a historic moment for KEZAD in the promotion of new energy environments.

The Khazna Solar photovoltaic plant in Abu Dhabi

Located in Abu Dhabi, the Khazna Solar photovoltaic plant will produce 1,500 megawatts of electricity. The plant is expected to reduce carbon emissions by more than 2.4 million tonnes per year and produce enough electricity to power around 160,000 homes across the UAE. Once commercially operational, Khazna Solar PV is expected to reduce Abu Dhabi’s carbon emissions by more than 2.4 million tonnes per year.

Large-scale solar power project at Emirates Engineering Center in Dubai

Emirates recently announced its partnership with Etihad Clean Energy Development to launch a large-scale solar power project at the Emirates Engineering Center in Dubai. Once fully operational, it will reduce CO2 equivalent emissions by more than 13,000 tonnes each year. 39,960 solar panels will be installed to provide 37% of the facility’s annual energy consumption, with an estimated annual production of 34,301,960 kWh.
