Queen Camilla shut down rumors about her tobacco addiction

Queen Camilla shut down rumors about her tobacco addiction

The royal resigned decades ago.

After long rumors, TV shows and movies like The Windsors And The Crown-depicting Queen Camilla as a heavy smoker and drinker, the royal sets the record straight once and for all.

Camilla, who took time off due to a chest infection, returned to royal duties this week by joining King Charles at his reception for the film and television charity at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday. By speaking with Paddington in Peru Actress Emily Mortimer, Camilla has revealed that she gave up the bad habit of smoking cigarettes years ago.

“Penny sends her love,” Mortimer said, according to The mirror, referring to her mother Penelope Mortimer, who Camilla knows. The Queen then asked how her mother was, to which Emily replied: “Oh, she’s still smoking as much as ever.”

When Camilla asked if Penny smoked “still,” Emily asked the Queen: “Oh, have you stopped?” Queen Camilla later revealed she hadn’t indulged in a cigarette in decades. “Oh yes, I stopped 20 years ago,” she said.

“Well done,” the actress congratulated the queen.

This is not the first time rumors about the Queen’s vices have been dispelled. Earlier this year, Camilla’s son Tom Parker Bowles said the rumors about Camilla were “completely inaccurate.”

“Oh, you know she has this reputation for drinking gin and smoking?” he said The times in an interview promoting his book Cuisine and the crown: royal recipes from Queen Victoria to King Charles III. “I’ve never had a glass of gin in her life. She doesn’t smoke.”

In fact, although she enjoys an occasional cocktail, the Queen doesn’t drink much.

“My mother barely drinks,” Tom added. “I’ve never seen her so drunk.”
