Tortilla strips recalled in 22 states due to undeclared allergen: FDA

Some tortilla strips sold in 22 U.S. states have been recalled due to the presence of an undeclared allergen in the packaging, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Fresh Gourmet Tortilla Strips Santa Fe Style was recalled by Sugar Foods after several customers reported their store-bought bags contained crispy onion strips – another brand food – rather than the expected product, the company said. FDA notice.

Fresh Gourmet Crispy Onion Strips contain wheat, which is not listed on the Fresh Gourmet Tortilla Strips label.

“Individuals with a wheat allergy or severe sensitivity to wheat are at risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product,” the Nov. 22 advisory said.

The recalled tortilla strips were distributed between September 30, 2024 and November 11, 2024 and shipped to distribution centers in the following countries: Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Maine, Michigan. , Minnesota, North Carolina, New Jersey, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Washington.

The affected Fresh Gourmet Tortilla Strips Santa Fe Style product comes in a 3.5 ounce resealable bag with UPC. Code 7 87359 17504 6and a “Best before date” of June 20, 2025.

The “Expiry Date” is located on the back of the pouch, above the UPC code.

The FDA said no illnesses have been reported to date.

Consumers who purchased the recalled products were asked to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund and/or discard them.
