Rishabh Pant made history as the most expensive player in the IPL after Lucknow Super Giants shelled out a record Rs 27 crore for the dynamic Indian keeper-batsman at the tournament’s mega auction Sunday.

Delhi Capitals used the Right To Match to buy out Pant at Rs 20.75 crore, but LSG increased the offer to Rs 27 crore and the former decided not to match that amount.

Pant has beaten all odds to make a successful return to international cricket after a life-threatening car accident in 2022. He is expected to lead his new team in the IPL 2025, which begins on March 14.

But do you know how much Pant has to pay in tax on Rs 27 crore and what will be the net amount left to him? Additionally, if he gets injured during or before the tournament, what loss could he suffer?

What will Rishabh Pant’s net salary be?

In the 2025 Indian Premier League auction, players were bid and signed three-year contracts. The amount paid by the franchise team represents the total salary over the duration of the contract. For example, Lucknow got Rishabh Pant for Rs 27 crore, but this sum will be spread over three seasons. Additionally, the Indian government will deduct Rs 8.1 crore as tax from the total value of Pant’s contract. Therefore, Pant will receive a net salary of Rs 18.9 crore from the IPL team over the three-year period.

What will happen if he gets injured

If Rishabh Pant suffers an injury during the IPL, he will receive his full payment. However, if an injury occurs before the tournament preventing his participation, the franchise reserves the right to replace him with another player. In the event of injury before the tournament, foreign players are not compensated. If an Indian player gets injured while on duty with Team India, making him unavailable for the IPL, he will receive full payment for the season, covered by the BCCI’s insurance policy.

What happens if a player does not participate in a single match

Even if an Indian or foreign player is under contract for the entire tournament with an IPL franchise but does not play a single match, he is still entitled to his full contractual salary.

However, if a player withdraws from the tournament for personal reasons, their payment will be prorated based on the number of matches played. Likewise, if a player gets injured during the tournament, the franchise is required to pay the entire contracted amount.
