The incident led to Shyne being sentenced to a decade in prison for his role in the incident while Diddy worked scot-free.

The former Bad Boy rapper also described Sean “Diddy” Combs as “the person who destroyed” his life and that the music mogul wasn’t there for his mother while he was in prison.

As part of his promotion for his upcoming Hulu documentary, “The Honorable Shyne,” Shyne reflected on the incident that led to his prison sentence while he was an artist under Diddy.

In 2001, the former Bad Boy rapper was sentenced to a decade in prison for his role in a 1999 New York nightclub incident involving Diddy. Surprisingly, his ex-boss walked free after initially being charged with gun possession and corruption.

Looking back on the incident, Shyne claimed the music mogul framed him as the fall guy. However, he has since let go of the grudges he once held towards Diddy.

“I’ve evolved and I’ve healed,” Shyne shared during her appearance on “Tamron Hall Show,” according to Billboard. “I didn’t see him shoot, but I know he put the blame on me. I know he called witnesses to testify against me.”

When Shyne reunited with Diddy to perform “Bad Boyz” at the 2022 BET Awards, he didn’t really want to do it.

However, he chose to go all the way to honor both hip-hop and Belize, the country he was deported to after serving most of his sentence.

Shyne has since embarked on a journey of redemption, now serving as Leader of the Opposition in the Belize House of Representatives.

“I didn’t want to do it, but he said, ‘Look, this is Belize. Imagine this platform,'” Shyne recalled.

During the performance, Diddy called Shyne his brother – a statement that Shyne found ironic, as he felt his former boss had done the opposite of what a real brother would have done during the fallout from the New York nightclub shooting. York in 1999.

“I wish I was his brother in 2000 when we were on trial,” Shyne said sarcastically when his host asked him about the remark. “I wish I had been his brother for the last 26 years, while my mother, who is here with me, never got any help. He never helped dry her tears.”

Despite his evolution, Shyne will never forget how Diddy was the one who seemingly derailed the life he once had.

“I have to keep putting into context, without spitting on someone’s grave, that this is the person who destroyed my life,” Shyne told Hall. “You hear my mom, she’ll probably start crying when she gets on that couch. People ask, ‘Do you think he did those things?’ Well, I know what he did to my family, so the potential is there.”

Shyne also shared the same sentiments in September when reacting to Diddy’s arrest on charges of racketeering, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution.

“This is someone who destroyed my life,” Shyne told media at the time, according to Billboard. “And who I forgave and who I moved on and for the best interest of Belize, because it was in a position at that time to give scholarships and maybe invest, I don’t I wouldn’t deny trying to bring investment to Belize and contribute to education in Belize.”

In response to Shyne’s series of interviews accusing him of making him out to be the fall guy, Diddy called the allegations “unequivocally false.”

“Mr. Combs was acquitted of all charges related to the 1999 Club New York incident and has always maintained his innocence,” a spokesperson for the embattled rapper said. TMZ. “He cannot accept or condone any characterization of his actions as ‘demonic’ or ‘malicious’.”

Diddy also congratulated Shyne regarding his new career path as a politician, but maintained he was disappointed that his former rapper label chose to raise dust over a forgotten issue.

“It is regrettable that Mr Barrow has chosen to retract these allegations,” the spokesperson added. “Mr. Combs is confident that responsible journalism will weigh both established legal outcomes and Mr. Combs’ long-standing, positive support of those with whom he worked.”

Diddy is in the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center after being arrested on September 16 following a grand jury indictment.

The rapper was charged with sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution.

Since his arrest, his legal team has made several attempts to secure bail for the rapper. They recently made a fourth bail proposal, arguing that cases similar to Diddy’s involved defendants being released on bail and that there was no reason for his case to be handled differently.

His lawyers proposed a bond similar to those previously offered in the rapper’s other bail attempts.

That package includes $50 million bail and more restrictions on the rapper’s movements to prevent him from fleeing or obstructing the case, as federal prosecutors fear.

No decision on this bail attempt has yet been made, but given the precedent set by the other denials, it will likely be rejected.
