Prabowo to increase teachers’ salaries – Society

Resident Prabowo Subianto agreed to improve the welfare of teachers by doubling the basic salary of those with civil servant status (ASN) and to provide an additional 2 million rupiah (US$125) for each non-civil servant teacher. ASN.

The plan was confirmed by Primary and Secondary Education Minister Abdul Mu’ti after a meeting with Prabowo at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday.

“(The president) will announce (personally) the improvement of teachers’ welfare,” Abdul said, as quoted by Antara, without specifying when this policy would come into effect.

He asked the President to announce the policy during the main event of this year’s National Teachers’ Day on Thursday at the Jakarta International Velodrome in Rawamangun, East Jakarta, which will host teacher representatives from the whole country.

Earlier, Speaker of the House of Representatives Puan Maharani urged the government to take concrete steps to improve the welfare of teachers, including advocating for salary increases, especially for teachers in remote areas .

“The well-being of teachers must be a priority, as they are the main pillar of education. We cannot separate well-being from the quality of teaching,” Puan said in Jakarta on Tuesday.
