The state government has relaxed the exam center norms for the Combined State/Higher Subordinate Service (Preliminary) Examination-2024, popularly known as (PCS Pre).

It removed the mandatory installation of examination centers within a 10-kilometer radius of bus and railway stations and the state treasury.

The new government order, a copy of which is with HT, came after the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) accepted the demand of the protesting students and decided to return to the system of holding the PCS (preliminary) exam in one day instead of two. days.

However, the new order still means that only government-run and government-aided secondary schools will be converted into examination centers as no exemption has been given in this regard compared to an earlier order issued on June 19.

The new GO published on Thursday states that it will be ensured that the examination centers will be carried out only in establishments located along the main road. Principal Secretary (Appointment and Personnel) M Devraj on Thursday issued instructions in this regard and sent the order to the chairmen of the state recruitment commissions and boards.

In the order, issued on June 19 by Additional Chief Secretary (Personnel) Devesh Chaturvedi, directions were given to maintain distance between exam centers within a radius of 10 km from bus stand, the station and the treasure. Based on this, the UPPSC was going to conduct the exam over two days. The Commission had argued that despite all possible efforts to organize the examination of 5,76,154 candidates registered for PCS (Pre)-2024 as per the government order, sufficient number of examination centers had not been found within a 10 km radius. This is why the exam had to take place over two days, a decision which she has now reversed.
