Death of Cheviot teaching assistant: police no longer investigating and refer case to coroner

In an article published last week on the Cheviot Area School website, board member Fiona Bush said everyone was devastated by his death.

“She was a wonderful, warm, conscientious, thoughtful woman and this is such a difficult time for all of us,” Bush said.

“My thoughts are with Renée’s family and all of you during this sad time.

“I know how much Renee meant to this school and the wider community. His presence will be deeply missed.

“I will never forget the kindness Renée showed to everyone, especially to the students she worked with. It was an immense privilege to know her.

One person commented on the school’s Facebook page that Whitcher was “a magnificent human being whose presence made the world a little brighter.”

“I love you my friend.”

Another said the death was a huge loss to our school and community.

“I also (sic) miss seeing your bubbly self around you. »

School headteacher Roger Hornblow said: “We are aware there have been discussions about this in the playground.

“We have a classroom space (Waihapu), with a teacher, for students who need time to process this, if they need it.”
