Air India pilot commits suicide in Mumbai, family claims boyfriend ‘forced her to stop eating non-vegetarian food’

Air India pilot Srishti Tuli allegedly committed suicide in Mumbai.

Mumbai:

A 25-year-old Air India pilot, who allegedly committed suicide in her Mumbai apartment, was allegedly constantly harassed and publicly humiliated by her boyfriend.

Details available in the first information report (FIR) registered against Aditya Pandit, 27, who was arrested, revealed that he had also pressured the woman, Srishti Tuli, to change her eating habits and stop eating non-vegetarian foods.

The FIR, which was lodged at the Powai police station based on a complaint lodged by Srishti’s uncle Vivekkumar Narendrakumar Tuli, cited several instances in which Aditya allegedly abused his girlfriend, leaving her disturbed.

The uncle said that in November last year, his car was used by Aditya to take his daughter Rashi and Srishti for shopping in Delhi. An argument broke out between the couple, during which Aditya used derogatory language against Srishti in front of Rashi, and even rammed the car into another vehicle in anger.

Vivekkumar said his car sustained damage, but Aditya appeared unaffected.

Argument over food

Another incident in which Srishti was allegedly publicly humiliated again by Aditya took place in March this year, when the couple had gathered with Rashi and her friends for a dinner in Gurugram.

Aditya allegedly insulted Srishti when she and the others suggested they eat non-vegetarian food. After an argument, the couple finally left to eat vegetarian food, but a few minutes later, Srishti called Rashi, telling her that Aditya had left her on the road and had gone home.

Vivekkumar said that after the incident, Srishti told her daughter that she was suffering because of the relationship but was unable to break ties with Aditya since she loved him.

The complaint also mentioned another similar incident, which occurred a few days later.

Vivekkumar said that Aditya had to attend a family function and wanted Srishti to accompany him. He allegedly continued to pressure his girlfriend to attend the event, even though he knew she was supposed to pilot a flight that day. As another argument broke out, Aditya blocked Srishti’s phone number for around 10-12 days, leaving her anxious.

The complaint stated that Srishti was always worried as Aditya often humiliated her in public and blocked her number for trivial reasons.

Arrested for complicity

The couple had met two years ago when the woman was pursuing a professional pilot course in Delhi and the two began a relationship soon after, the FIR claimed.

Srishti the body was found in his rented apartment on Monday at Kanakia Rainforest building in Marol area of Andheri. Police said she allegedly hanged herself with a data cable earlier in the day, but no suicide note was found.

Aditya was arrested on Tuesday under section 108 (abetment to suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. He was produced before the court, which remanded him in police custody until November 29.
